6-26-2010 Sailing Day

This morning Elin and I went to Dag and Elin`s house to do some planning for next week. Monday there are 17 kids coming to stay for the week who are taking a boating class on the island. We are in charge of activities and such for the kids, so the four of us talked about what will be needed to be done.

In the afternoon, Elin and I spent the day at Dag and Elin`s house and picked some rubarb (spelling) and then chopped it up... for what reason, we do not know yet.

After that, Dag came up with the great idea to go sailing. So Elin and I were more than up for it. Although, not all of us felt the greatest (sea sickness) but it was a pleasant trip.

6-25-2010 Just an update

Two days ago, Elin and I decided to make a really good meal, so we got some salmon and we decided we wanted to grill it. The weather was great so we decided to put the salmon in tinfoil and cut up some karrots and peppers, onions, and lemons and wrapped it all up, we took the row boat over to the beach where we used the grills and we grilled the salmon. It was a very good meal!

Last night, there were 2 kayakers, father and son, the father was 66 and the son was maybe 40ish or perhaps a few years younger, but they were kayaking from Tromsø and all the way down the coast of Norway. They have been paddling for 40 days and resting 5 days because of weather, but Elin Thorsen (my boss) happened to see their blog online, got into contact with them and they decided to stop by Røvær for the night. We ate dinner with them at Elin and Dags house.

Other than that, Elin and I have had the last two days off, and just been relaxing, kayaking, rowing, fishing, and hanging out. There is a large group of nearly a hundred on the island, which means the population doubles so its a big deal! But they leave Sunday and beginning in July the cafe will open and things will start to get really hectic.

Elin paddling the row boat over to the beach for our outdoor grilling of salmon and vegetables! Very good!

6-22-2010 Kayak and Fishing Trip

Today came to be a surprise for me. I woke up and ate breakfast, and soon after Dag came down to the Sjøhuset and asked if I wanted to go paddle around on the kayak. Of course I did, so Dag and I got the kayaks out and went for a spin around the islands. After that Elin and I did some work, we had to clean out the rooms upstairs after 6 guests stayed in the rooms the night before... then we had to wash the windows, which are plastered with salt water so they suck to get clean, but finally after we thought they were good, we made some dinner than right after dinner we decided to take the paddle boat out and try fishing for the first time here. We did not catch anything... but we will try again!

Elin took a sneaky pick from our loft of me while I was putting my kayak in the water.

Elin and I took the paddle boat out for a stroll and tried our luck at fishing after work today... neither of us caught anything...

This is just a picture I took of the sunlight reflecting off the water in the evening.

6-21-2010 Did some Work?

I feel like Elin and I have been really busy the last few days, but I do not remember what we have done... It was extremely windy over the weekend which made it pretty miserable to be outside... but today was great! We worked for most of the day but then we took the boat out for a paddle... Elin got sunburned today too... it is just on her forearm and about a few inches up past her elbow... and only on one of her arms. I do not have a picture of it yet though... if it turns out good, I will try to post it on the blog. My face feels really burned too... so maybe I should go check that out in the mirror!

Elin and I washed all these chairs by hand today.... over a hundred... it took along time!

Look at all those chairs!

This is the view from our loft... after our long day of work, we decided to take one of the boats out for a paddle... and then I went we found a dock that was kinda high up so of course I wanted to jump off.. I did a dive and that was fine, but Elin requested a cannon ball... and so I did, but it was such a high jump that it hurt like hell, and it felt like I had a turd hanging out of my butt.

There is Elin waiting for the ferry to take us back to Røvær.

This is the view from a bridge looking down at the brygge in Haugesund... this is where the ferry comes to pick us up to take us to Røvær.

6-15-2010 Stavanger Day Trip

Yesterday Elin and I helped Elin (boss) pack some things up from her flat in Haugesund that she was going to take back with her to Røvær. Dag (other boss) is in Røvær with his last class of the spring and that will be done on Thursday. This means that there are a bunch of kids at the Sjøhuset so Elin and I are staying in Haugesund in Elin and Dags flat. So Elin and I had today and tomorrow off, and we decided to take a boat trip down to Stavanger. It was a special deal today too... only 50 krones for a trip down there. It was an hour and a halfish by boat to Stavanger from Haugesund. In Stavanger we found some hot chocolate, went to a movie and had some good old fashion Peppes Pizza! Here are some photos of our day!

Good by Haugesund (for the day).... soon to be in Stavanger.

This was our mode of transportation from Haugesund to Stavanger.

Just taking in some sights at the harbor in Stavanger.

6-12-2010 Finally at Røvær

So this is way out of order, but I suck on a mac computer so just work your way through it, it should make sense.

These are some unfriendly Norwegian bulls that Elin and I ran into walking around on the island.

Elin and I made it to Røvær a few days ago. Again it is just a tiny island of about 100 people that live here. We had to take a 25 minutes ferry ride from Haugesund to Røvær. We met Dag and Elin (our bosses). I have met alot of really nice people here in Norway and Dag and Elin fall into that category. They made us feel right at home and extremely welcome. They seem to give us quite a bit of space which is nice. I have photos of this place and from a little hike Elin and I went on today, but I can not get them to load at the moment so I will have to try some other time. We had gale force winds today which made the ocean really rough and it was really cool watching the water crash into the rocks. But like I said before, I will try to put pics up later.

This is the Sjøhuset. This is where we call home and work.

6-3-2010 Elin`s Cabin

Ok, so Elin, Tessi and I spent the last week at her cabin. It is up near Otta, which is near Rondane National Park. It is in a beautiful mountainous setting. We did some hiking and things like that, and just relaxed for 6ish days. We played alot of cards and did some great cooking. Elin makes a mean homemade pizza... Over the week I bet we ate like 4 big bags of cheese... we had cheese on everything, and our pizza and lazagna both looked like mountains of cheese before and after we put them in the oven. Now we are back in Asker and just getting things lined up for next Thursday when we fly to Haugesund which where we will start working this summer.

Tessi likes the cabin.

Tessi and Elin on our way up to the top, Annefjellet.

Elin signing the book on the mountain top, Annefjellet.

This was my "initiation" apparently into the Wang cabin life.

Tessi and I out for a swim.... it was F`n cold... there was still ice out on the lake. When I put my head underwater, it was like instant brain freeze... but it was worth it, it was refreshing.

One of my many sunset pictures, but I actually do not like the way they turned out, but this was the best one I think I had.

The red building is Elin`s cabin from a far far distance.

Some nice water falls that we hiked by.... I of course wanted to jump into one of the pools from about 25 feet or so, but Elin didn`t want me to...

Panorama from top on day 3.

This was a peak that Elin, Tessi and I did on day 3.
