The other night, Elin and I went out to the highest point on the island during the best sunset I have ever seen. I took 71 photos, and here are a few, you can see the lighthouse in some, as well as some ships cruising out on the Atlantic Ocean on the horizon... enjoy.

7-22-2010 Vamp Concert
On Thursday the island had a concert with Vamp. Vamp is a Norwegian group who sing in Norwegian and come from this area. There was well over 200 people on this island for the concert, not including the 100 or so that live here, so the island was pretty packed that day.
The video is of the ferry coming under the bridge from Haugesund to Røvær.

This was my favorite of the Vamp group.

7-15-2010 Family Week
From Monday to Thursday was family week. Families from different ethnic backgrounds and low income were here for a visit. We had different activities and such planned for them. The families were from Somalia, Russia, and Norway. We took them on rowboat and canoe tours, we went to a few different places to grill and eat some food, and they went fishing... lots of fishing. Here are some photos from this week.
Again, the set up is all messed up so try to figure out which caption goes with what picture, I dont know why it is like that?

Family day at Grønnevika.

Canoe and row boat tours.

This dog was stranded in the boat, and right after I took this picture the following happened, it decided to jump for the sail boat, and it didnt make it, it fell in the water, and I felt bad for it, but at the same time, it was kinda funny.

Dag and Elin bobbin for apples... Dag won.

This is the biggest fish we have caught in the nets so far since I have been here.

All the kids fishing on the dock with their little nets.

Family day at Ulvøysund.

7-9-2010 Fishing Nets
So for some reason the pictures and explanations dont line up and Im not sure why? But you will figure it out. This morning Dag asked if Elin and I wanted to go out and get the nets that he set out the night before. So we woke up early and headed out. These are some pictures of the trip.
Secondly... Elin and I were in Haugesund plugging the Sjøhuset and Cafe and Røvær in general, and I asked these 3 guys if they speak English, and at the same time... 2 of them said yes, and one guys says NO, and the others looked at him like, yes you do... shut up. I dont think he wanted to talk with me.

There`s a fish!

The flag on the boat...

Dont worry, he pulled through.....

The fish tank that Dag keeps some fish in... and for kids like me to watch the fish swim.

One net had just fish, the other net had some fish and lots and lots of seaweed as you can see...

Dag showing the people something.... those people went out with us to fetch the nets.

7-5-2010 Norwegian 4th of July and other stuff
Well, 4th of July was a pretty low key one here. Elin and I had the day off, so we went into Haugesund where we got on a bus and took it to the island of Karmøy. It took about an hour by bus but we made it to a little place called Åkresanden where there is a nice white sand beach. Although it was too cold to go swim or lay on the beach, it was nice to see. Then we bussed back to Haugesund where we ate at Egon, which I think is my favorite Norwegian food place, I ate a chicken wok, and Elin had a ravioli chicken salad. Good stuff, but the bad part was that Norwegians do not know how to make a cherry coke? What the hell?

This was from the night before the 4th.... one of my favorite pictures so far.

Åkresanden, Elin and mine 4th of July beach. But it was too cold and windy.

2-7-2010 Light House Trip
I am going to make this short and sweet... cause I am tired. Elin and I worked most of the day... well, not really, but it felt like it. The ocean today was extremely calm, and some of the local youths around our age were taking boats out to the lighthouse island for a fire in the evening... Elin our boss, let us off early so we could go cause she said this is a special opportunity and we should not pass it up. So we got into a little 40 horse powered boat, and took off across the sea not really that far but in the sea and hung out on the light house island for alittle while. Here are some photos.

This is a panoramic photo from the lighthouse looking back east towards the mainland, also the little bit of land you see on the right side is the start of Røvær.

This is looking back east towards the main land... I got some good colors to show up in my picture. You can also see the mountains in the background.

This is the lighthouse.

I am such a creative photographer.

The reflection on the calm water in my front yard.
